Klapa Saint Mihovil in concert 18 JUN 2018 - THE GUT, VALLETTA

Klapa music is a form of traditional a cappella singing in Croatia. The word klapa translates as “a group of friends” and traces its roots to littoral church singing. The motifs in general celebrate love, wine (grapes), country (homeland) and sea. In 2012 klapa was inscribed in UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.  The programme for the evening will consist of around 15 popular Croatian songs in the klapa tradition, and will last for around 60 minutes.

The performers’ group is called Klapa Saint Mihovil – it is under the patronage of the Croatian Chief Police Office and consists of 8 singers, all members of the national police force which have been performing together since 2009. The group members are:  Tonči Marinovič (I. tenor), Milan Katić, Petar Domazet, Tomislav Bašić (II. tenor) , Jerko Livačić, Ante Šućur, Tomislav Čizmić (bariton), Ante Šipić, Zvonimir Kovačić i Ivan Bašić (bass).

This event is organised by the Embassy of Croatia to Malta and the Valletta 2018 Foundation, and supported by Valletta Boutique Living.
